This piece was part of a series of paintings based on the Ashdown Forest, near where I live. As with all of my work, I'm very interested in building up brush marks and colour to give an impression and to create interest, rather than trying for a photographic representation.
The Ashdown Forest is a very open space, despite it's name, with lots of tracks, bracken and gorse and is a favourite spot for walkers and ramblers.
I wanted to concentrate on the path worn into the earth in this painting, with touches of heather and chalk tracks amongst the grass. It makes me think of good dog walks and pub lunches afterwards.
