Waves at Red Point: original artwork by Julie Arbuckle.
Watercolour on paper
A watercolour study of a wave breaking on the shore at Red Point Beach near Gairloch, in the West Highlands of Scotland. Red Point is so named because of the reddish coloured sand on the beach. This is in part because of the Torridonian Sandstone which proliferates the area. It is a reddish hue due to oxidisation of the iron content and is among one of the oldest rock types in the world.
The views out to the Isle of Skye are wonderful from Red Point. Combine this with often changeable weather and the result is an exciting, beautiful place which never really seems the same twice.
Framed under glass in a double mount and wood-effect frame with neutral colours.
Framed size : 35cm x 30cm
Drawing size : 11.5 cm x 16.5 cm
