Painted especially for warrior queen, Tania Harcourt-Cooze, grandaughter of Samuel Taylor Coleridge for her inaugural exhibition at Chanters House at Ottery St Mary in South Devon (birthplace of Coleridge). Tragically, Tania was subsequently forced to sell this historic wonderful house. The model here is not Tania but I did paint her 8 months pregnant with Eve - a painting which I gave her.
This is a heavy painting; it was suspended high overhead at Chanters House and when the exhibition came down, I found that it was clinging on by one small screw only half in. Anyone underneath would have been killed or seriously injured if it had come down. Later I surmised that it would be a rare thing for someone to be killed by one's work... knocked out, yes, but not killed!
