"The Umbrellas" is my 21st century take on the 19th century original painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir of the same name. Renoir captured the European fashion of 1885 but then returned to the painting some 5 years later and added a lady in a dark dress to the foreground wearing a much more modern ensemble of the day. My painting, using Renoir's composition some 130 years later, has today's fashion must-haves such as Ug boots, puffa coats, Hunter wellington boots, Parker and Burberry macs and a Louis Vuitton bag. The child in the original painting wore a bonnet and played with a hoop & stick. My little girl has a scooter and safety helmet. I hope the contrasts prove an interesting and amusing comparison.
