Original artwork description:

Used every day for my cup of tea in the studio at Leeds, this simple tin mug, made in China, deserved its portrait painting, after all its years of service. As with 'Articulated Surfaces", the surface tones are mapped out individually, and each one assigned a colour/tone. As Cézanne said: "The more the colour harmonises, the tighter the drawing becomes" - Colour and drawing are inseparable, the one is the limit and location of the other.

Materials used:

Home made oil paint on linen canvas, egg & oil emulsion primer, damar varnish
