Anja Stemmer is a German abstract artist, located in Munich, whose paintings derive their power from a mix of untamed emotion, vibrant yet differentiated color, and layers of gestural brushstrokes.
She is a representative of the informal, gestural abstraction. Her work is mostly non-representational. Correspondingly, her art making process is spontaneous, with fast movements and often very dynamic. Often the gestural moment dominates the rhythm of an artwork.
Inspiration for her works comes from many different sources - sometimes it is the color or the material itself and sometimes philosophical questions guide the topics of her artistic research.

One such idea is to paint the unseen – investigating artistically about the wind, a light breeze, a soft movement of air – noticeable only from the effect the movement has on items of the visible world, that are flaunting, waving, streaming.
