Once, during a plein air painting session on the seashore, I saw the shadow of a pine tree on the path under her feet. When I looked up, I saw the beautiful shape of the pine tree and the sunlight dancing joyfully on its branches and needles. In the painting, the viewer's gaze also goes from below along the trunk of the tree upward, to see where the sky peeks through between the branches. The eye pleasing multicolored glare of the sun, the wavy lines of the drawing in combination with free brush strokes convey the energy and mood of a sunny day.
