The author tries to transport the viewer into the past, and he does so through these yellowed and weathered books, tied with a string, just as they once did, to hold them steady for the trip to the school miles away from home. An egg, a primordial food accessible even to those who didn't have much, and a rose picked for some time and left to dry so as not to lose the memory of that moment in which it was picked ...
