This new series of paintings, titled ‘The Staging of Our Youth’, is a collection of colorful, figurative landscapes evoking childhood and the nostalgia that comes with one’s youth. McAfee grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and remembers life before the internet and social media; a time when outdoor experiences were paramount in one’s upbringing. These playful glimpses into the innocence of childhood are his expression on how memories are kept. Each painting contains subject and activities that meant something personal to him as a child and helped him reminisce upon his past. There is a humor and playfulness within this series, and while they are not to be taken too seriously, McAfee hopes that the viewer finds a glimpse of their own childhood within each one.
