The special Isle of Purbecks
A beautiful light,
Above the ridge,
Silvery blue hues in the sky,
Ancient moorland hill,
Woodland starting to change colour in Autumn,
As I release the paint and stare in wonder.

Original impressionist watercolour painting created on location and discovered the scene awhile ago and had to come back in early October to paint it in a mini heatwave.
I used extra rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 425 gsm 200 lb. I applied the washes of light to dark with my Chinese brush and then used my Filbert brush when the paper had dried to apply more depth of colour, then wet the brush to soften the paint into the painting. I also etched out the paint with my nail for the small detail. You can see how I achieve that on my YouTube channel watercolour demonstration with Samantha.
I love plein painting you really see the true light and colours and can achieve more of a fresh spontaneous look.
