Original artwork description:

Inspired by the memory of the Artist’s girlhood at home with her mothers extreme hoarding and fun visits to her grandparents’ house in 1964, where there was magnificent black floral, with birds,( freedom ) wallpaper in the loo, the smallest room. The Painting, from the Artist’s series “ The great divide “ explores Parr’s experience of being female and therefore stereotyped by society as being feminine, and the conflicts and questions often raised by this, as always with her painting, expressed through abstracted scape and form. When painting, she is completely immersed in the process, building a reverberating relationship with the canvas, a push and pull of spontaneity and controlled intention.
