Original artwork description:

This 30”x20” canvas is called ‘The Simple Things’. It’s title carries on the story from my previous big dahlia painting which took me on a journey of gratitude. These paintings created during lockdown explore what really maters in our lives when push comes to shove.
Starting on these simple little cosmos, which have withstood all sorts off weather & keep popping up with few unseasonal blooms from time to time, made me think about what was a common theme in my long list of things I am thankful for. I realised that the things which bring me the most joy in life are always the simple ones. The big impressive moments may feel spectacular at the time, but looking at life over the years, it’s the little pleasures & everyday things which make me feel all warm & happy. Sitting watching a film on a Sunday evening with my teenager who could be upstairs gaming online, but chose to snuggle up & share some giggles over a silly film with his Mum. Memories of bonfires on beaches with friends as the sun sets. A simple bunch of country flowers bringing the hedgerow into the home.

The background of the painting became a playful escapade of featherlight wafers of different types of gold leaf, transparent glazes & rubbed crackly resins.
The simple pleasure of being able to experiment & enjoy doing something I love comes close to the top of the list. All of my lockdown paintings have taken me on journeys of exploration while we are at home.
