Artwork in which I devised the imaginary portrait of “Brandano,” a preacher from Siena (1486 - 1554) known as “the madman of Christ,” who devoted his life to preaching, even traveling around Europe with a crucifix in one hand and a skull in the other. He uttered prophecies and rhyming invectives that made him famous, stigmatizing the powerful, and was also able to predict the future, such as the fall of the Republic, but encouraged the Sienese to defend their freedom. He died shortly before his prophecy about the fall of Siena came true (1555) but his remains, as he wished, were lost. In my work, oil evokes visions and deep feelings, mixing realism and expressionism to depict a figure that embodies human history in its purest essence. The face is a kaleidoscope of emotions, the gaze, penetrating, looks beyond. Each stroke will bring to your home an energy of contemplation and introspection, stimulating reflections on the depth of existence.
