On the surface, this painting looks playful in it's depiction of this scene of the farmer and his crop, but on second glance we see something much more sinister. It takes on somewhat of a horrific mood, with the decaying, poisoned soil, the mutated crops, and the farmer's demonic eyes and hatchet buried in the ground. Even the sun has a look of horror as he watches from afar. It is a stark reminder of how our planet and soil are being poisoned every day from multiple sources. Both illustrative and painterly, this colorful piece is fun and disturbing. A great conversation starter.
