To Celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee!
This image was originally inspired by a private commission to complete a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in the style of my historically inspired Female linocuts.
There are only 4 of this image, which has been reworked from the original version of the commissioned piece. Each version is in a different colour pallet, this one is in yellow ochre.
Since I was little I was always fascinated by the brooding portraits I'd see hanging on walls of historical houses in Britain, gaping wonderingly at these magnificent looking women from centuries ago and imagining what they were like when alive.
I really enjoy juxtaposing a historical image with the graphic contemporary nature of linocuts and think the two disperate styles work really well together.
My prints come in very limited editions and I do tend to experiment with every new print I produce. And although I do try my very best to keep every piece free from smudges you may find that borders of the print marked by smudges such as in this piece, these can be hidden with good framing.
Oil based relief ink and Somerset satin 300gsm
