This drawing in pen and ink on watercolour paper shows a family of guinea fowl.
Many years ago, I lived in Mozambique for six months, and guinea fowl were a common sight scratching about in the undergrowth by the side of the road. In Mozambique they were known as 'bush chickens' but to me they seemed incredibly beautiful and exotic, with their black plumage spotted almost electric blue. I have a little, painted wooden sculpture of a guinea fowl, which I bought in Mozambique, on my bedside table, so I think of them every morning when I start the day.
The drawing is in black ink on a 20cm x 20cm sheet of Hahnemule natural white, acid free, 300g/m2, hot pressed, watercolour paper. It is initialled in the lower right.
