This print depicts a midwinter field just after it has been ploughed. People ask if it was a specific field, I can never really reply with a place name or location.
The field in question was probably one of the hundreds I used to see on my daily commute up and down the motorway from Leeds to Sheffield. The arable fields on either side of the road change character markedly across the seasons.
This image was taken from a memory I had of seeing a field of freshly ploughed clay-rich soil. The red colour I chose as the background for this two colour print depicts the vivid, almost red-raw nature of the freshly turned loam.
The Ploughed Field is one of my most popular prints. The simplicity of the colours, combined with graphical nature of the image seem to appeal.
