This painting explores the penance of St Peter after his denial of the Christ, three times, as prophesied by Jesus. This painting was originally painted in 2003 inspired by El Greco's style of painting. After my pilgrimage to Spain for six months on the Flow and Art project and then travel Northwards, to see the El Greco paintings through the land, I re-visited this painting this year, rubbing back with wet and dry sandpaper, to bring back the original image stained on the panel. Through adding new layers of paint, I transformed this image back into El Greco's style of Mannerist painting, after seeing his work in Toledo, with St Peter purified from the fires of penance.
Comes with mirror plates for hanging.
Oil Paint, sandpaper on panel.
