“The Over Under” is a sports betting term that came to mind because of March Madness and the juxtaposition of these two mares. Their spatial arrangement and negative space create an interesting composition, although the horses themselves are far from ordinary. These scrappy brood mares are part of the Hashknife breeding program at the famous Babbitt ranch near Flagstaff. Every summer their foals are auctioned to eventually become stand-outs in ranching, performance sports or even racing.
