This is the first of a series of prints I am creating during self-isolation in response to COVID-19. While my prints are normally inspired by nature and the outside of my home, for this small series, I have turned my attention to the inside of my home, a place where I, like thousands of others, am spending a great deal of time.
This piece of furniture, still in regular use, has been in my husband's family ever since he can remember. It has no valuable provenance, and it sags in the middle. But it reminds me of what links families through generations, the memories an object can evoke, and the beauty of utilitarian objects that we stop "seeing" in the bustle of normal life.
I hope it makes viewers think of their own homes and the beauty in the ordinary that lies within them.
