I let my memories take hold when thinking about this painting. We had a group of kids from school who used to play cricket in our dead end street. We weren't allowed to use a real cricket ball of course. However one day Vivian, my arch enemy on the team and for the affections of the Captain, arrived with an old cricket ball. I saw her giving it to him and whispering something in his ear. I soon found out what it was. I was demoted from opening batsman and replaced by the red haired temptress! Fortunately the real cricket ball didn't live long and only Mrs Crossly lost a downstairs window. A lot of time was spent outdoors - once upon a time .....
stretched canvas on timber cradle; professional oils
