Animals, when they come into my paintings, always tell their stories. Sometimes they speak for their person, but sometimes they seem like messengers for someone else.
⠀
This Saluki dog was named Peri .The portrait was commissioned by his mistress who missed him very much. Peri crossed the rainbow bridge not long ago. She shared his wonderful story, filled with emotions and love.
⠀
Peri readily agreed to make contact and manifest in the painting. But he asked me to paint two portraits of him. It was the first time I encountered such a request from a departed pet. But Peri was insistent, and I couldn't refuse.
⠀
At first, I thought he might want his owner to have two different portraits of him. But then I felt that Peri wasn't just about that. As if he had something to convey to someone else. Perhaps someone is awaiting a message from a departed friend or the chance to remember someone who is about to return.
⠀
This is the first of two portraits of Peri, and this portrait is for whoever sees a message for themselves in it.
⠀
I've been planning to show this portrait for a couple of weeks, but I felt it wasn't the right time. And today, the "message" is ready to go out into the world.
