Artwork in which I created an imaginary portrait of Simone Martini (1284–1344), a painter and miniaturist who was one of the greatest and most influential artists of 14th-century Italy. Although ancient accounts describe him as unattractive, he was nevertheless one of the great masters of the Sienese School. Considered the symbolic artist of the city of Siena in the Middle Ages, he was as important as Giotto. The background of the painting recalls one of his most famous works, the fresco “Guidoriccio da Fogliano,” located in the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena. In this oil painting, I have tried to capture the complexity of medieval thought, blending realism and expressionism, also through this face lost in thought, which expresses intense reflection. I wanted to convey the tension between reality and imagination, bringing contemplative and enigmatic energy into your home.
