‘The man of profound effect locally’ celebrates human kind and its eccentricities. Although the painting may seem exaggerated, a realism is found in the absurdity.

The piece depicts a man, seemingly isolated, considering the horizon, his future, as waves break upon the shore. A theme of such profundity! This somber mood is washed away however by the humour and colourful charm of the inflatable creature. The inflatable not only offers some light relief, but also describes in a manner the human’s character in greater detail, as well as human behaviour as a whole: humans contend with such a complexity of thoughts and feelings. Wrapped around the man, the inflatable’s purpose, its humour, could also be a source of comfort: a salvation that prevents the man from drowning.
