NEW Original One of a Kind acrylic artwork of one of my favorite subjects... Environmentalism! This subject is important because i love to paint animals and the environment affects them so deeply. This large artwork is another we are adding to our Series, (Save the Sails), where artworks are created on discarded pieces of heavy canvas Sailboat Sail material. This large artwork is called, "UNITY." This artwork was created for a contest with the theme of "Unity." I contemplated what “UNITY” concept had the highest priority to be addressed in this contest? It came down to Global Warming! All other concerns of divisiveness fall by the wayside if the planet dies beneath our feet and the air becomes unbreathable. Period! I decided to do a new artwork for this contest within my environmental collection, “Save the Sails," because it is sponsored by NATURAL EARTH PAINTS which sells eco-friendly painting materials.
More commentary on back of artwork.
The theme of UNITY is portrayed in this artwork by all the peoples of Earth “pulling” together to save the planet. The group on the left is trying to save our thin blue line (Ozone layer) from drifting into space. The group on the right is trying to save the Earth from breaking apart. The fact that Africa is the piece breaking off represents the rich nations have turned their back on the poor nations. The poorest nations suffer the most consequences of the richest nations!
As you can see these sections of sailboat sail canvas are very rustic. They are unraveled on the edges and some slightly wrinkled... like a piece of a sail found on the beach. They are also seldom perfectly square due to the characteristic of its ability to stretch with the wind. For me this just adds to the essence that this is indeed a piece of sailboat sail canvas... perhaps from a lost ship at sea! Let your imagination soar with this one! I feel it would look great hung on a wall with tacks, or matching colored push pins. Some of my clients hot glue a dowel rod to the top on the backside and hang it by nautical rope or string. YOU can even participate in the creation of this artwork by unraveling it more on the edges if you want to make it look more distressed. These artworks are for the special GREEN-minded people who are like me in that they hate to discard things that can be repurposed. Especially into works of Art. Contact us for a discussion about this artwork or to make a respectable offer, which we will consider.
