This painting is part of a series created for his exhibition, 'Genesis in the Retort' which explores common archetypes and narratives that attempt to explain the human condition. Who are we? Where does the ego come from and where does it reside? Is there an afterlife beyond death of the physical body? He has been investigating the archetypes prevalent across many indigenous cultures, as well as contemporary mythology, and how these most often relate to a desire to explain our animal needs and the natural world around us. This painting is exploring the alchemical process, origins and Materia Prima. The title is taken from Tarot and the two intertwining plants are Philodendron which translates from Ancient Greek as ‘Love Tree’.
