It isn’t me. It is another, softer, smaller and kinder girl, whose world of indecision and reticence makes her a project to all who meet her. They will all convert her, they think. Her habit of not volunteering anything more than is absolutely necessary will be overcome, they think. And so they try, one by one, to persuade her that the world is a safe place, and that she should love them. She is sweet though, and she doesn’t let on. She simply lets them to do what they need to do. Sometimes their efforts are rewarded with a slow, long kiss. My dog has issues that will live well beyond her natural lifespan.
