Minnie gave Jack the watch as he left for France in the 1st world war. He made his watch chain from bullet cases while in the trenches at the battle of the Somme in 1916.
Minnie cherished the love heart locket that Jack gave her as he kissed her goodbye.
One autumn day in 1925 Jack finally died from his shrapnel injuries and the watch and love heart were placed in the garden together, among the roses they both loved.
