Original artwork description:

I feel a mixture of relief and sadness when the snow disappears. It is a fairly rare occurrence in my part of the world - the fens of eastern England. In this field near my home, just a couple of areas persist in the deeper furrows, shielded from the feeble winter sun.
Christopher Witchall's landscape paintings capture the open spaces and vast skies of the Cambridgeshire fens where he has lived, explored, painted and photographed for 30 years.
His unsentimental approach to landscape combine traditional painting techniques with the realism and cool detachment of photography.
