The Painting harnesses both a sense of place and a passing of time with content. The graphic addition of the date stone rubbing (taken from above one of the lintels of the main doors to the ruined cottage in the painting), serves as a timely reminder of a bygone age linking place to trace elements of the people who worked and lived in this landscape within this richly layered expressive painting honouring the land of our forefathers in the South Pennines.
