About the work:
At this period i was interested in Europe's new wave influx of Asian culture back in the 17th Century, it was interesting that everyone wanted the Art, Furniture and even to travel to a far new land, as some people couldn't really visit as a lack of funds and whatnot, lots of people bought household items.
Though research i found a Chinese styled wallpaper which was created during the period made by the Europeans cashing in on the now in fashioned 'It' style. Beautiful it was, I created a portrait of a European born Chinese female who's daydreaming about herself not in an narcissus way but in a way of her culture and of where her background began.
The painting is called Insubstantial meaning she's physically not 100% Chinese born but only of decent, shes European just like the wall paper being made here, it's interesting really and a bit of a head trip thinking about where things are made and where things begin.
