The Illuminated Shadow depicts a previously ornate and cared for, but now empty room. With no other sources of light, the space is illuminated partly from the half shuttered windows, and somewhat more mysteriously from behind the viewer. The floor is swept with white (dust, ash, ice...) and appears to be slowly in motion.
Painted in oil on wood, it has clean white sides and is ready to hang.
