The painting depicts a person — it is me. I believe that this body shape and silhouette reflect my inner state, which I have been experiencing since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. My family and I lost our home, taken away by the war. I am working through this traumatic experience and trying to live it out on my canvases. It seems that I am managing to process it, but each time I return to the fact that war brings sorrow and destruction, that life after the war began cannot be the same.
In the painting, we see a table and a chair, and above them hangs a picture or a window. I intentionally depicted this part of the window/picture as an ambiguous object. I wanted the person to look out the window and see the house, look at the picture and still see the house in the picture.
By hugging themselves, the person in the right part of the painting tries to support or soothe themselves.
