2022, "The Highlands" - stone sculpture

This original quartzite sculpture is one of the latest artworks of the talented Bulgarian contemporary professional sculptor Ognyan Chitakov, deeply inspired by organic abstract expressionism, postmodernism and geometry. Quartzite is the hardest one of all rocks, and just like marble it is a metamorphic rock, which was originally pure quartz sandstone. The artist's concept is to create with this most hard stone material various abstract landscapes of common places on Earth, rich in this beautiful and extremely hard stone material. The Highlands is a historical region of Scotland. Several mountains (e.g. Foinaven, Arkle) composed of beautiful Cambrian quartzite can be found in the far north-west Moine Thrust Belt running in a narrow band from Loch Eriboll in a south-westerly direction all the way to Skye. The unique sculptural spacial form is carved in this amazing quartzite rock with the help of an extraordinary maze of carvings and details, leaving the feeling of airiness and lightness in this very ancient rock piece. The artwork is one amazing solid stone masterpiece and exquisite modern home décor.
