Original artwork description:

This is painted plein air, during the summer, in the gardens in full bloom at the Grange in Lewes, Sussex. I was struck how the magentas complement the huge variety of greens and create a vibrancy that almost brings the garden to life. The front on view of the architectural component flattens the view, so any illusion of depth is created by advancing and receding colours and tones, rather than any description of form.

Materials used:

oils, cold wax
