I painted the portrait of this man in limited hues to intensify his strong gaze. His expression captivated me with his strong facial structure.

I used toned grey Strathmore paper onto which I rubbed a ground of carbon powder.

Then I worked in soft pastels to build highlights and then mid tones - all the while keeping an eye on the overall expression of this man.
