Artwork description:

A portrait of closely grouped stone buildings in Swaledale, the most northerly of the UK’s Yorkshire Dales. The village of Muker ( pronounced to rhyme with lucre) is an ancient settlement. The name is evidently of Norse origin, derived from the Old Norse mjór akr meaning "the narrow newly cultivated field". Above the buildings the swallows are lining up on a phone wire, though it is deliberately unclear whether they have just arrived or are about to leave.

Materials used:

Copper plate, ferric chloride, black and Prussian blue ink
