When setting out to paint a rural scene, especially from my hometown, I try to add the complexity of change that we are encountering. I like adding experimental elements into the work to make it a bit grittier and holistic in its representation. This is why I utilize spray paint, ink, stencils, and varishes in my work to achieve this.
The Gathering tells the story that we are seeing across our country, that natural landscape, or working landscape, farms, are being reduces in size more and more each day. Development projects come and these farms cannot hold out. It is a sad thing to see...I get progress to a degree, but I do believe in responsible progress, and progress that isn't driven by profit and greed.
