The Fire Bush comes into bloom in early spring.
This is my very first colour pressing of this particular etching inked up with Ultramarine for the sky and mountains, Azure Blue for the lake, Burnt Umber for the rugged grasses and soil and Ruby Red for the "Fire Bush" in the foreground
In October 2015, I visited the Torres Del Paine National Park, Patagonia in South America. It is Somewhere I have always dreamed of visiting because of it's remoteness and it's extraordinarily spectacular natural beauty with it's etherial azure and turquoise hues.
I chose etching and aquatint as this best suits the dusty and atmospheric textures of the rocks. I find that using etching creates an earthy, yet other- worldly bleakness to some of the worlds most desolate landscapes. I felt at the time that working on this topic using oils or watercolours would be too representational and that etching would just add that little bit of extra cragginess to the image.
