The Farmer Wants A Wife
Original oil painting depicting a street party scene from the celebrations of the Queens Coronation.
The children form a circle and skip round a boy and girl in the centre while singing The Farmer Wants A Wife.
The boy in the fore ground with his back to the viewer still lives in the street, now a retired teacher.
Although the full circle of children is broken or out of shot in the scene their presence is still seen by the shadows they cast.
The two speakers in an upstairs room window sill are probably linked to a radio broadcasting the Coronation proceedings and the events of the day 2nd of June 1953.
All edges painted as part of the scene. Varnished, strung and ready to hang.
oil on stretched canvas
