The Embrace is an image of passionate lovers.
I wanted to get across the idea of the craziness and frenzy of first passion in a relationship.

It is a large frottage, created using graphite, in a method like brass-rubbing, built up from cut patterned surfaces, and textures. Here I have used areas from my many linocuts and built up the image, focusing on the impending kiss and on the woman's flowing hair.

The dark areas are an intense deep soft grey, as the whole image is made from soft 9B graphite.

Mulberry paper is a textured, soft weave delicate paper with a deckled edge.

This artwork was created in my last years in London in the early 1990s and has been stored away since then.

I have created CGI images of how this image would appear in both a dark and pale frame.
