In this work, I wanted to explore the intersection of art and interior design. I therefore began with a room (the grey and russet brown one) and painted a large canvas for that particular space. I began by painting a traditional sky scene underneath (elements of it are peeping through), then used a large palette knife to work some deep reds, ochres and ivories together , sometimes blending, sometimes separating. Other processes were used to bring about a crackle effect through the darkest burgundy.
Modern interior design in the United Kingdom is of the highest standard and is such an art form in itself, I'm interested in this next body of work to create paintings for specific places, which are highly designed. This is the first in that series.
