Large (about A3) colour linocut of the tropical biome at the Eden Project in Cornwall.
This is a large linocut made using two carved blocks of lino, one for the dark outline and the other used as a reduction block for all the different colours. For this reason, this full colour version of the scene is limited to 13 only.
The ink is transferred to the paper by rubbing the back with a baren and a wooden spoon. (Takes a while!). As always with linocuts, each print will vary slightly since they are produced by hand. Each print is numbered, titled and signed on the front by me, the artist.
The colours used also vary in this edition. The flowers can be mauve, dark pink or yellow, for instance. The print shown is the actual print for sale - No.4 - with mauve flowers.
The actual print is 29cm wide and 38cm high (roughly A3 - so pretty big).
The linocut is printed in water-based inks on acid free paper and comes with a mount, backing board and cellophane wrap so it is ready for a 40cm by 50cm frame.
Please note international orders will be posted without a mount and rolled in a tube with acid-free tissue.
The Eden Project in Cornwall is an internationally famous horticultural destination. On my visit there last summer, I was particularly impressed (as everyone is) by the two huge "biomes".
Pictured here is part of the tropical biome, where a bridge goes over the small lake. In the foreground you can see the little roul roul partridges that roam around in the undergrowth here and nonchalantly cross the paths.
I may return to this theme and do the tropical biome's fantastic waterfall, and the interesting crop plants of the Mediterranean biome (not to mention the native British birds that seem to have made their homes in there.
