***Conceptual info***
This piece as a whole represents the archetypal task of going into the spirit realm or subconscious through the act of dreaming, to bring back knowledge. His eyes are shut in a dream like state as his head lies just beyond an aura like arc of light that represents the edge of consciousness. He is shown laying in a sea of gold leaf with small lily pads surrounding him, meant to echo the dark abyss of the unconscious, and his head peaks above it into the aura like region on the second half of the painting. Small white stars can be seen throughout the top of the painting, the only region they can not be seen is in the part the man's face is looking up in to- these stars represent the physical world and literal edge of the universe. The candle represents the mans connection to the spirit realm, his small flame that grounds him to existence, and he holds it over his heart(similar to the symbolism of the sacred heart). His foot is burning representing the destruction and leaving of the physical world while he is on his dream journey into the spirit realm. So in total, this piece represents a man at the intersection of the unconscious, the physical world and an entrance into the spiritual world, similar to the concept of a shamanic spirit journey.
***About***
I have been a professional full time artist since 2004, have showed throughout the US and am in multiple museum collections as well as private collections throughout the world. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me, even if you just want to ask more about what a piece means or about why I create art.
***Framing***
All pieces come framed. I create the frames myself (an example of which is in the pictures). All frames are cut, joined, wood filled, sanded so there is no appearance of joining method and then painted and sealed. Ready to hang with a signature on the back of the actual piece and then one on the back of the paper that covers the frame. Some of the frames have little designs painted on, like the example I included in the pictures. The frames are float frames, meaning the piece appears to float in the frame. No part of the actual painting is covered by the frame, nor touches the frame.
***Shipping***
I use silicone based conservator paper to wrap the painting before packing up. This is a non stick paper, expensive paper, highly useful. I double box the painting, so there is no need for crating. If you do want it crated, let me know and we can work something out. Painting will arrive in great condition, I have never had a problem and I have been doing this for almost 14 years. If you have any specific shipping needs please let me know.
