This artwork is another in our series of artworks created on discarded pieces of coarse Sailboat Sail canvas. It is part of our environmental conscious art... both in the subject and the materials used. The title of this artwork is "The Day The Earth Gave Up!" The concept of this piece is the earth just could not survive the abuse it has taken from humankind anymore and just gives up.... exploding into a blast of color... disappearing into the darkness of space. From what I have seen so far in my life... we are definitely headed this way. Humankind is so selfish and greedy as a whole ... the earth will not survive. I pray everyday we will change our ways and save the earth for our grandchildren and their grandchildren.
A NOTE about this artwork. : As you can see these sections of sailboat sail canvas are very rustic. They are unraveled on the edges and some slightly wrinkled... like a piece of a sail found on the beach. They are also seldom perfectly square due to the characteristic of its flexibility and the ability to stretch with the wind. For me this just adds to the essence that this is indeed a piece of sailboat sail canvas... perhaps from a lost ship at sea! Let your imagination soar with this one! I feel it would look great hung on a wall with tacks, or matching colored push pins. Some of my clients hot glue a dowel rod to the top and hang it by decorative rope, ribbon, or string. YOU can even participate in the creation of this artwork by unraveling it more on the edges if you want to make it look more distressed. These artworks are for the special GREEN-minded people who are like me in that they hate to discard things that can be repurposed. Especially into works of Art.
