This is one of my favourite statues ever. It's in the House of the Faun in Pompeii. A survivor of the eruption which decimated the town.
The faun is a mythological half human–half goat creature. Fauns are often connected to Pan and Greek satyrs, or wild followers of the Greek god of wine and drama, Dionysus.
Kenneth Clark said about this particular bronze statue: "the pose is light and graceful, the modelling well understood, the general sense of movement admirably sustained".
This is what I wanted to convey with my painting. The graceful movement, the anatomy, the frolicking...
