Original artwork description:

This is classical realist still life that consists of non-organic forms: those made by human beings; an empty ceramic vase, a ceramic pitcher and a ceramic teapot, each white, as is the cloth upon which they are place. Then the central focus point: the red glass cravat. A counterpoint to the human-made, is the one organic form: a small golden-yellow seashell. The artist concerned herself primarily with capturing the cast shadows and the luminous transparency of the red glass. All other objects are non-transparent, another part of the interplay of form, shadow, and color. Every realistic painting's true subject is light, and 'the story of light' dominates this small, quiet, still life. The work is painted on a gallery-wrapped museum-quality linen 'canvas' and is framed in a 2-inch deep silver canvas floater frame. The frame is wood. The painting is signed on the back and my insignia (and interlocking G and J) is painted on the front. It's protected with a UVA-grade varnish and colorfast for 500 years.

Materials used:

oil paint, varnish, museum-grade cradled birch panel
