This is the second in my series of 'moment' pieces.

My parents have a small cottage in northern Wisconsin on a small lake in a place that's too small to properly call it a town. It's more a gathering of a few hardy folk who like each other's company. This past 4th of July we had fireworks lit from every dock on the lake. The air filled with a sweet smoke that clung to the ground for hours after the show. Some of us returning back to shore from our lazy cocktail hour pontoon rides were welcome to this eerie sight.
