Take the time to read the history of this artwork.

In the painting, I depicted the center of the Ukrainian city - Kharkiv. It was one of my favorite places for night walks. I lived in Kharkiv alone since I was 14 years old and have many stories that I have already transferred into watercolor paintings. One of these stories is in this picture about love and separation. I fell in love with the city and the boy who was born here. It was a beautiful love story. We walked the streets of the city and kissed, dreamed about what kind of people we would become and talked a lot about different things in the world: the stars, the weather, dogs, the color of my lipstick or his eyes. We also met the war in this city together and decided to leave the city in order to preserve our moral and physical condition. I felt my love yearning for ruined houses and streets.

It was difficult for him to see the misery and devastation that happened every day to the city from the missiles. I decided to draw the desire of him, his relatives and friends to protect the city. Their sadness, their hope, their love turned into this picture. The city of my love is a literal and metaphorical name. The picture is filled with sharp contrasts between light and dark spots and translucent tones of blue, brown and gray colors. The hands reflect the metaphor of the love of those who are forced to leave their homes.
