The checkerboard symbol par excellence of light and darkness in earthly existence. The space within which to move to elaborate paths of spiritual elevation. The chessboard as a floor at the bottom of which a woman awaits the fall of the chessmen, which will determine the fate of man himself, the chessboard as a battlefield where man's very life is at stake. Black to symbolize emptiness, mystery. White, light, air, purity. A blue roundel, symbolizing stillness, imagination and the power of dreams.
